weight loss power foodHoneydew melons are so fresh and delicious! This wonderful fruit is available year round in your grocery stores. You can keep your honeydew melon for about 5 days. The honeydew melon is ripe when the skin is yellowish in color. If the melon feels either too hard or too soft, or has dark spots on the skin, choose another melon that looks and feels better.

You can keep your honeydew melons at room temperature for about 4 days if they are not quite ripe. Once fully ripened, you can keep in your refrigerator for approximately another 5 days. If you cut your honeydew melon, make sure you keep it either wrapped in plastic or in a closed container as the strong odor from the honeydew melon can saturate other foods.

Even though honeydew melons taste sweet, they are still great for weight loss, as they are low calorie and saturated fat. You can eat extra, get the benefits of the nutrition, get more energy and feel full faster! Because of their high water content, honeydew melons are very refreshing and very good for healthy skin.

Honeydew melon is an excellent source of Vitamin C and Vitamin B6. Vitamin C is needed to repair tissues in your body, healing wounds, maintaining healthy bones and teeth. Vitamin C helps to build our immune system, therefore can help to fight off infections, colds and the flu. Vitamin B6 helps maintain normal nerve function and helps to form red blood cells.

Honeydew melon is also high in potassium and folate. Potassium is needed for functioning of the digestive system, muscles, nerves, kidneys and your heart. Potassium can also help regulate blood pressure. Folate helps to form red blood cells and helps cells to work and tissues to grow. Taking folic acid during pregnancy can help prevent certain birth defects.

There are many ways to enjoy eating honeydew melon, especially if you combine it with our other weight loss power foods! Try tossing some honeydew melon on top of either a tossed salad or a fruit salad for some extra fresh flavor.
